Thank you for checking us out! Because Mastodon is not owned by a single person or company, it is up to volunteers to run instances and maintain them. Currently for Okla.Social, the costs are around $24 per month in order to host the instance along with the bot that is relaying information to Mastodon from other sources. We would like to upgrade to their next tier of hosting offered by toot.io to provide more capacity and also add full text search.
