What is GO!Commons

GO!Commons is an alliance and community of open hardware initiatives focused economic empowerment and sustainable impact. The alliance uses collaborative economic principles to make sure that all the partners benefit from it. We are officially registered in the Netherlands as an association with an international base.

Why is it important?

At the moment there are plenty of open hardware initiatives that go from hobbyists projects, to makers, science, hacks and more. But this initiatives are disconnected lacking of standards and shared resources. In simple words, they are still not benefiting from their different experiences. Furthermore the shared knowledge about best open source practices and tools is still limited. One of the things that is particularly limited is the economic, financial and business approach to such topics.

Our focus is on creating common resources, infrastructure, knowledge base, standards, best practices and strategic alliances for emergent initiatives that want to use open hardware to make impact in a sustainable and effective manner.

• Teaching the basics of developing open hardware projects and how to turn them into commercially feasible models.
• Teaching teams and project leads how to work in a decentralized and autonomous organizations.
• We facilitate project/community building.
• Teaching the principles of Working Open and Leading Open (WOLO)
• Helping teams to frame their ideas into a strategy and impact making plan
• Teaching the basics of collaborative business models, what are the business archetypes and possibilities how can open hardware be sold.
• Joining forces across different places and communities in the world.
