Update Computer Club

The Update Computer Club (Datorföreningen Update in Swedish) houses a big collection of historic computers, peripherals, software, and documentation, from the 1960s and onward. Some of our items are very rare and trace the history of computing not only at Uppsala University where we were previously located, but in all of Sweden. Our goal is to bring as many as possible of our machines into a working state, so people can learn about and experience them hands-on.

In 2021 the Uppsala University IT department – until then our host and main sponsor – moved into a new building without room for our activities. Since then we have managed to find a new space and move our collection, but we are struggling to pay the rent in the long term. We were able to cover the first 2–3 years of rent from several big private donations, but we need to increase our regular income to be able to provide a safe home for our collection. While we are also looking for further corporate sponsors, we would like to cover a big part of our running costs from membership fees and recurring donations to keep our independence.
