I created the first graphical touchscreen point of sale software and P.o.S. system in 1986. I did not patent any part of it and copyright law does not prevent anyone from copying computer interfaces, so everyone was free to copy what I had created. I was also only an individual with an Anthropology degree and 15 years of experience building and operating restaurants which sold sub sandwiches so I had no money to promote what I had created other than to travel to computer shows and restaurant shows for ten years, showing the attendees of these shows what I had created. Today P.o.S. systems copied from my own are found in nearly every restaurant in the world and yet I receive no payment whatsoever from any company or individual who has imitated and sells these essential tools.

Since 2014 I have placed my sourcecode on GitHub and anyone in the world is allowed to build P.o.S. systems using my own code and graphical interface, which I have been developing since 1986, without any legal requirement to pay me anything. I would appreciate it if anyone would support me in continuing this work, my passion, so that the software which I offer to anyone in the world for free, under the Free Software License, will continue to become more versatile, will gain new features, and will be as good in every way as the P.o.S. software and equipment that P.o.S. companies are selling to hospitality and retail operators for tens, even hundreds of thousands of dollars.

I hope to see a time when P.o.S. systems are so low in cost that anyone can afford the best of them, and when the software is completely free to them, both in cost and in the freedom that they have under the GNU Public License frees them from the restrictions and limitations of proprietary, secret source code over which they have no rights to see or to enhance.
